Liz Cooper’s Beauty is the FIrst Test continues its tour... During April it was at R-Space, The Linen Rooms in Northern Ireland. The images show their clever UV fold-out screens! The show then travelled to NCCD in Lincoln (April to June). Their huge gallery space meant new works could be added so Black Eyed Peas, 2524 Minutes joined Beauty is the First Test; it was great to see these two huge related works in the same space.

Big Draw: Inspired By The Spirograph

 

We had a really busy day of drop-in drawing activities to celebrate my work which is part of the exhibition 'Beauty is the First Test' at the Pump House Gallery in Battersea Park. We explored the magic of the Spirograph and made our own designs into badges to wear.  As well as regular sized Spirographs to play with, we also used giant ones (made from bicycle chains and gears) and chalk to make a huge group drawing on the gallery piazza. The chalk and gears were difficult for small hands to control on the uneven floor but we improvised with stencils and before we knew it the drawing was almost 7 meters in diameter!

A group exhibition that will explore how mathematical concepts underpin craft techniques and artistic development, in an attempt to demystify a subject that intimidates both adults and children, by showing unique and stimulating works of art. ‘Beauty is the First Test’ will draw together existing and new artworks to invite in-depth consideration of contemporary craft practice in this wider context. Beauty and playfulness will be evident in the exhibits to illustrate what delights craftspeople and maths geeks alike.

Starts 9 July 2012 on BBC2 at 3.00pm every weekday for 3 consecutive weeks.

From thousands of applications I was one of just over a hundred artists selected to compete for a place in the Show Me the Monet Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. In order to secure a place I had to face the ‘Hanging Committee’ - a panel of judges including Charlotte Mullins, David Lee and Roy Bolton.
